Fishing

This week

2008

23rd August

There's been a distinct change this week as the corixa have started to migrate out into the margins and will levels maintaining or rising, the fish are following them past the line of the old weed beds to end up inshore of the obstructing weed.

We're also seeing fish moving on the "big red" buzzers and the phantom midge so there is something for both bank and boat anglers.

Greenlawn

From the banks, try a clothesline rig on calmer days with green holo or red wire ribbed dialws on the droppers or a more traditional corixa pattern. Where the surface run stops your fishing speed from being slow enough, try the opposite approach and try a small goldhead damsel or leaded corixa pattern on the point with the same combination of buzzers.

Dam Basin

From the boats, you can either try similar tactics anchored in shallow areas that aren't on top of normal bank pitches or you can cruise down winds slicks looking for moving fish on the more overcast days.

Dam Basin

Moving fish at this time of year are usually traveling quite fast and their movement pattern appears to be quite random as they alternate between the odd corixa and emerging buzzers, so you'll have to be very accurate with your fly placement. Try a red or claret haystack or suspender buzzer on the point with red or orange bits emergers and hoppers on the droppers. As an alternative, try a corixa pattern on the point with PTNs on the droppers and aim to keep your rig moving fast through the general area of activity.
