Butcombe
Bay
Butcombe Bay presents a number of aspects to the bank and boat fisherman.
I've listed the main features in order from the Island although
is should be noted that a barrier prevents access to All Saints
from the Island.
The head of the bay provides limited drifting and
anchorage for boat fishermen and is near inaccessible to bank fishermen.
The first inlet stream (identified by its wooden footbridge) runs
into a pool before entering the main body of the lake. The pool
conceals a silt spit that runs across the mouth of the pool starting
from the dam side of the pool next to the withy bushes.
Bank
anglers wishing to try and wade the spit should use extreme caution
- there is deep water on either side and the spit is narrow.
For boat fishermen, the spit and the trees that line
the bank back towards the dam provide a good drift and a couple
of good anchoring stations - fish will often hold at the extreme
end of the spit under the trees.
