Green Lawn

Lake mapLong BayHolt Bay Green Lawn is a large expanse of bank that forms a rectangular point between Long Bay and Holt Bay.

Starting from the side opposite the fishing lodge, a causeway enters the water by the side of some well matured willow bushes. This causeway is used as a transport point for boats and is frequently used as a restocking point.

The length of bank immediately opposite the fishing lodge is deepest at the Long Bay end and shallows up to form the western tip of the Lawn. Bank fishing along this stretch gives access to deep water (10-12 feet) but fishing can be difficult in strong westerly or southwesterly winds.

The western tip of the Lawn points in the direction of the Bywash and provides good cover to a number of depths while presenting an opportunity to cover fish "contouring" in and out of Home Bay.

The stretch between the western and eastern tips of the lawn provides uniform depth out to about 8 feet but bank access can be restricted by weed growth during the summer months although some channels have been dredged this winter (2001 - see the section on Holt Bay).

The eastern tip provides a long, shallow point which runs in the direction of Peg's Point on the opposite bank. While this point gives access to deeper water on either side, the back-cast can be impeded by the high bank and weed does present a hazard from the late spring to early autumn.

Green Lawn is largely bank fishing territory at all water levels and all times during the season - boat fishing is best at high water levels when anchored off the causeway side or drifting into the western end.
