Holt
Bay
Holt Bay is another shallow "pan" between Green Lawn and Rainbow
Point.
On the Western edge of the bay, bank reinforcement
work performed in late 2001 / early 2002 has provided a natural
wood palisade into the head of the bay.
This feature contains fishing platforms and provides
additional bank access for water between top level and four to five
feet down and has matured
to
provide interesting cover for food items such as caddis, hog lice
and shrimp.
The in-fill behind the palisade was dredged from the
top of Holt Bay and some areas on the northern side of Green Lawn
- this did restrict weed growth in both areas during the 2002 season
but the weed has returned over the past few years.
Moving into the head of the bay, the eastern corner
fishes well from the bank in summer evenings before the weed has
reached maximum growth but overall, Holt is a neglected part of
the lake from both the bank and the boats.
On the side of Rainbow Point, it shelves off to a
depth of up to 10 feet and normally fishes at higher water levels
from the boats. The bay reaches considerable depth at its mouth
(up to 25 feet) but only seems to hold fish at sporadic times during
the year.

In the early season, a number of larger fish normally
hold in the middle of the bay and in the early summer when the sedges
first appear in numbers, the fish start to feed more on the surface
around the weed beds which fringe the head of the bay.
